BEST homemade fertiliser for tomato plants

Updated: Apr 24

1 ingredient. BUDGET Friendly. Super easy.

When to Use Passata for Tomatoes

Passata naturally has high potassium, making it great during flowering and fruiting stages.

How to Use It Safely (Dilution)

Because it's rich, you should dilute passata before applying to plants:

✅ Recommended Mix:

  • 50–70 mL of passata per 1 liter of water

This gives you a potassium level of roughly 150–210 ppm, right in the sweet spot for fruiting.

  • Use this once every 7–10 days when your tomato plants start flowering
  • Pour around the base (not on leaves)
  • Optionally strain it to avoid clogging watering cans

🚫 Don'ts:

  • Don’t apply undiluted — it's acidic and rich
  • Don’t use during early seedling stage — too much K, not enough N
  • Avoid flavored or salted passata (pure tomato only)

Nutrients in 100 ml pasatta

N (Nitrogen) | ~190 mg

P (Phosphorus) | ~30 mg

K (Potassium) | ~300 mg

That gives it a rough NPK ratio of 6.3 – 1 – 10

Stage | When to Feed | Amount

  1. Flowering begins | Every 7–10 days | 1L per plant base

  2. Fruit developing | Every 7 days | 1L per plant base

  3. Ripening | Every 10 days | 0.5–1L per plant
