January sowing: Verbascum

Updated: Jan 15, 2024

My favourite cottage garden flower.

One of my absolute favourite cottage garden plants is verbascum. It's a hardy short lived perennial. Hardy down to around -18c, so it can be over wintered outside in many zones and can be started in summer for flowering the next year, or in January (winter sowing method or greenhouse preferred for a head start) for flowering the same year.

Here's my latest you tube video the topic of the wonderful verbascum!
